A Perfect Blend of Nature and Culture
I was enchanted by the diversity of Sri Lanka! Within just 10 days, I went from just lying down on Mirissa Beach to climbing in the greeneries of Ella. The Temple of the Tooth at Kandy is spiritually very powerful, and the Sigirija Rock climb is just memorable. It is best to hire a private driver or opt for scenic trains for the comfortable and local experience. The country has it all!
Best for First-Time Solo Travelers
Sri Lanka felt safe and easy to get around as a solo traveler. The people are kind and willing to help, with local buses and tuk-tuks providing affordable transportation. The train ride from Ella to Kandy was the most beautiful journey I’ve ever made. Keep your itinerary flexible because you will want to spend more time at each location!
The Visual Gifts for a Photographer
From the colonial charm of Galle Fort to the animal world in Yala National Park, Sri Lanka is a feast for the eyes. I took photos of leopards, stilt fishermen, tea plantations bathed in sunrise, and some very ancient temples all in one trip. I suggest traveling during the dry season (Dec–March for the south, April–Sept for the east) for the best lighting and clear skies.
The Best Vacation for a Family
Traveling with kids was interesting, and Sri Lanka surely turned out to be the best one for families. The beaches are all clean and calm; the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage was great fun. Places like Dambulla Caves kept even the tiniest ones curious. We went with all-in tours, and that became worth every cent, stress-free, an education, and a blast!
